MRLG signs MOU with CAP/IPSARD in Viet Nam
On the 25th January 2016, the Mekong Region Land Governance Project and Gret, our implementing partner in Viet Nam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Center for Agricultural Policy – Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (CAP-IPSARD). This MOU signing was made possibly based on decision 4873 issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to approve the “Mekong Region Land Governance Project Document – Component in Viet Nam” where the host agency was identified as Center of Agricultural Policy, Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development, under MARD.
The MOU encapuslates the learning and alliance building activities of MRLG in Viet Nam as well as an Innovation Fund project being implemented by CAP-IPSARD that focuses on improving tenure of and equitable access to forest land of smallholding farmers and ethnic minorities – particularly on forest land transferred from forestry enterprises by developing an effective monitoring system for Land Use Policy Implementation of Agriculture and Forestry Companies in Vietnam. A Project Coordination Board has been establish to ensure good governance in coordinating and managing MRLG implementation in Viet Nam.
This MOU will cover many activties on going in Viet Nam. The focus areas of MRLG supported activities are: citizen monitoring of the land law, forest reallocations to communities, land aquisitions and compensation, and cross border investments. A collaborative stakeholder workshop was held in Viet Nam on 26 &27th November 2015 and the workshop report and new activities will be outlined and available soon.
