2016 Call for Proposals for Land Governance Innovations

The 2016 Call for Proposals for Land Governance Innovations is now officially closed. We are very grateful for the overwhelming response. Proponents of shortlisted projects will be notified on the 8th of August 2016.

MRLG received a total of 82 concept notes with 26 coming from Viet Nam (32%) 20 from Cambodia (24%), 16 from Laos (20%) and 14 from Myanmar (17%). Six (6) concept note proposal were submitted with a regional coverage.

Most of the submissions received (44 out of 82) opted for the 2-phased approach. There is also a strong response to the offer of small grants for support piloting of small projects (17 proposals).

For the 2016 Call we envisage funding 6 small grant projects and up to 8 large projects across the four countries.

2015 Innovation Fund Projects

The Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) Project has set aside US$ 2.5 million to support security of land tenure of smallholder farmers in the Mekong Region.

After the rigorous process of project design and review, the MRLG Project is pleased to announce the approval by the Project Steering Committee (PSC) of 10 Innovation Fund Projects which were selected from a total of 58 proposals submitted in May 2015.   Each project will be receiving a grant of US$ 250,000 with project implementation starting in January 2016.   All projects are designed to be completed within 2 years.

Seven of the ten projects are country level initiatives designed to address specific land governance issue affecting Lao, Myanmar, and Viet Nam.  The remaining three projects are regional in scope across the four Mekong countries, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Viet Nam. These projects cover a wide range of land governance concerns from land rights awareness, land rights recognition, responsible land investment, to private sector engagement. They aim to influence improved policies and practices on land governance as well as build capacity of stakeholders in the sector to improve land tenure security of smallholder farmers, especially ethnic groups and women.
